Speaker: Tim Jacques
My background is policing and more specifically (in relation to this topic) Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP). I retired from the police in 2024 as the No2 in UK CTP and was in a role known as the Senior National Coordinator. This had me as the overall lead for all UK led investigations relating to Counter Terrorism, State Threats, War Crimes & Official Secrets Act offences. I worked closely with the UK Intelligence community (latterly being co-located with them), special forces military, UK government at senior ministerial level and many international partners (especially from the “Five Eyes” countries). I’m still involved in a Five Eyes Alumni Association that puts on two global CT conferences every year - not open to the public.
Earlier this year I became the UK’s “Independent Prevent Commissioner” appointed by the Home Secretary and announced in Parliament. I replaced Lord David Anderson who had held the role on an interim basis after its introduction following the horrific murders of three young girls in Southport in 2024.
